A recent study of 14,000 engaged or recently married Americans showed 19 percent of couples met online. But some people are still into finding a mate the old-fashioned way: in real life. Some millennials fear they've lost the skills to meet romantic interests IRL, and others have had such negative experiences with online dating that they're sick of swiping. But it's 2018 and there's nothing wrong with making a match on the Internet. Swiping right is so much easier than soliciting a random bar meet cute. Would you rather find love IRL or online? 📱💞📱

Almost everyone knows a least one success story from a couple who met online. Single people used to meet potential romantic interests at square dances and church socials, but times have changed. So much of our work and leisure time is spent online, so it makes sense we're finding love there too. The Internet is a different way to connect, not an inferior one.
It should be about the connection, more than the actual way two people meet. Phones are just a de facto way of communicating and getting things done, so of course it's going to be how more and more people date.
But some single people remain attached to meeting their soulmate in-person. Catching someone's eye across a crowded room just feels more romantic and cosmic than swiping right or filling out a questionnaire. Besides, many people have horror stories from online dating, where the potential for deception is a feature—not a bug. Some are just tired of looking for love on their phones and say dating apps just promote hookup culture at the expense of romance.
