Which is the better margarita: On the rocks or frozen?

There's nothing better than a margarita on a hot summer day–or any day of the year for that matter. But when it comes to how you like your margarita served, people have strong preferences. Some say on the rocks is best, as you can better taste the subtleties of the tequila and citrus. Others say frozen is the way to go. When you're in need of a refreshing beverage, nothing can beat a boozy tequila slushy. Which kind of marg is best?

According to the experts, on the rocks is a better way to drink a margarita. Tío Juan's Margaritas, a Mexican restaurant, surveyed a group of 12 mixologists on the subject, and on the rocks was the outright winner. One veteran bartender commented:

“The margarita is better on the rocks because it better expresses the intensity of the relationship between the tequila and the citrus flavors of the drink. While the blended drink is good, the slushy consistency gets in the way of the drink flavors themselves; the cold factor changes the flavor profile.”

There you have it. On the rocks is the correct way to drink a marg. Enjoy!

But some say a frozen margarita is just more refreshing. When you're hot and in need of a drink, there's just nothing better than a tequila slushy to brighten your day.

Plus, if you don't love the taste of tequila, a frozen margarita is the choice for you. The slushy-factor cuts the harshness of the tequila, making the drink feel sweeter overall. Tío Juan's Margaritas writes:

Another common sentiment was that margaritas made with purees, such as strawberry, peach or coconut, tastes better in the frozen form. Frozen margs can be a refreshingly delicious option in the hot summer months, with their slushy consistency and fruity flavors, they just make you feel like you’re relaxing.

And who doesn't want a strawberry margarita? Frozen is the way to go.
