Lady Gaga banned from China after meeting exiled leader Dalai Lama. Is this fair? | The Tylt
Uh oh! Lady Gaga pissed off China! The singer met with the Dalai Lama, the exiled leader of Tibet, this past Sunday in the U.S. They discussed mental health and meditation at an event streamed on Facebook and watched by more than 3 million people. And now Lady Gaga is banned from China!
But what about her fans? Ha! Some of her Chinese fans are totally OK with the ban and feel betrayed that Gaga met with the leader. Not to mention, they won't be able to enjoy her music anymore, which gives them even more reason to be upset.
So, is Gaga's ban from China fair?
According to the Guardian, China's Communist's Party propaganda department issued the ban shortly after the two met. Gaga can no longer tour in China, and her music has been exiled, too. Dalai Lama was banned in 1959. He claims he wants freedom from China's rule. But Chinese rulers blast him as a separatist who wants to split and rule the Himalayan region.
So should Gaga had seen this coming? Was it worth it? China barred Maroon 5, Bjork and Oasis for meeting the leader as well. Some are calling China's government corrupt and oppressive. But Gaga had to know the risks in meeting the leader.
So, what do you think: #GagaBanFair or #GagaBanUnfair?
