Kim Kardashian made the cover of 'Forbes.' Does she deserve it? | The Tylt
Kim Kardashian made the cover of Forbes magazine, but plenty of people are not happy about it.
Did Kim Kardashian deserve to make the cover of Forbes?
Kardashian was featured because a digital game based on her life as a celebrity ("Kim Kardashian: Hollywood") has generated 45 million downloads and $160 million in revenue, $45 million of which goes directly to the reality star herself. Forbes fully acknowledges that, "It’s easy to scoff at this and pretty much everything else Kim Kardashian West does," but also gives her credit for figuring out "an entirely new way to monetize fame." The magazine calls her a mobile mogul, and points out that other big-name celebrities like Shakira, Katy Perry, and Britney Spears have all failed in this new arena.
So perhaps Forbes is right and the larger business world needs to #GiveKimCredit. But critics think the #KimCoverIsCrap.
They're super skeptical of the idea that Kim had anything to actually do with the game. She's not a producer; she's a product. She didn't design the app. And some might think anyone who owes their career to a (purposely leaked) sex tape doesn't deserve acknowledgment from one of the world's premier financial publications. People think Forbes has sunk sleazily low in an effort to gain page views. And if Forbes wants to acknowledge celebrity accomplishments, why not put top earner Taylor Swift on the cover? At least she's talented.
But regardless of how critics might feel about Kim, she's made a name for herself as a business. What's so wrong with a woman turning a sex tape into further success?! But haters 'gon hate her for that.
So, what do you think?
