Is it cruel to keep tea cup dogs as pets?
Animal rights advocates say tea cup dogs are unethical because they tend to be extremely unhealthy dogs. Dogs aren't meant to be this small and as a consequence, have major health issues like double rows of teeth, spinal issues, seizures and fragile bones. Tea cup dogs grow up to be unhealthy for no real reason beyond being a fashion statement and a way to get easy likes on Instagram.
"This is because they are bred for to meet a fashion ideal purely based on looks, often exaggerating their puppy features, rather than for sound health, good behavior and longevity," Cobb said. "Many of these issues may not be immediately apparent to a new puppy owner, but develop or deteriorate over the first year of life."
It's impossible to deny just how cute tea cup dogs are. Paris Hilton is famous for her tiny Pomeranians and chihuahuas, and people the world over are just as obsessed with them. All dogs come with health risks, owners should be able to buy the kind of dog they want.
