Is Apple's new Face ID technology creepy?
Some people really hate the idea of facial recognition technology. The way Apple uses it seems to be safe and secure, but the issue lies with the technology itself. Apple isn't abusing it but others will.
#FaceID Good: Design looks surprisingly robust, already has a panic disable. Bad: Normalizes facial scanning, a tech certain to be abused.
For what it's worth, it seems like Apple has done a good job of keeping the data secure and protected from abuse. With the latest iOS, users can turn on an emergency mode which disables Face ID and Touch ID by pressing the power button five times. The actual data is stored in a Secure Enclave where it can't be accessed by any apps or even through the operating system.
If it actually works, Face ID will be super convenient! Now we just have to wait to find out.
