Can you make good friends over the Internet? | The Tylt
The Internet is undoubtedly humanity’s cesspool. But like many negative situations, beauty has the opportunity to spring forth. Take the connection and sense of community many people have gotten from the Internet, whether it be from the darkest of subreddits or old Myspace accounts. In fact, a lot of people have met their closest friends over the Internet although, of course, others question the validity of these relationships. How about you?

Everyone seems to forget just how groundbreaking the Internet is. It has exposed otherwise isolated people to an entire world. Likewise, it has given lonelier folks a way to meet other people. It’s people connecting at the end of the day; of course solid friendships will arise from it.
Heck, this former lawyer not only found one of her best friends online, but actually achieved her dream of being a published author all thanks to LiveJournal. See, there’s some positivity outside of overly perfect Instagram models!
The Internet is the reason why in-person human socializing is dying. Staring at a screen and surfing through multiple profiles is as far from reality as it gets. If you make a friend online, you’re only meeting their online persona, not their person persona (that makes sense, shut up).
Listen, does anyone you know have a best friend they made off the Internet? If the answer is “yes,” is their relationship based on truth or super-curated messages on some sketchy site? If not, well, they’re certainly a rarity. Let’s hope virtual relationships don’t become the norm.
