Ultimate hangover cure: Breakfast sandwich or activated charcoal?
For some, the breakfast sandwich the morning after is one of the best parts of going out. You reunite with your friends to share a loaded bagel, croissant or biscuit and recount the previous night's events–the ritual can be just as much of a cure for your hangover as the sandwich itself.
Regardless of your preferred sandwich fixings–classic bacon, egg and cheese, lox, or eggs whites and spinach–the more grease, the better.
Thrillist's Wil Fulton ruminates on the magic of the breakfast sandwich:
Does the bread soak up the booze swirling in my stomach? Does the layer of cheddar awaken endorphins in my spinal cord that fill my body with a crack-like sense of affirmation and goodwill? I'm not sure. But if you are well enough to scarf one of these suckers down, it does the trick.
Breakfast sandwiches are a thing of the past. You don't need to drown your body in grease to get rid of that headache; all you need are a few activated charcoal supplements.
Byrdie's Deven Hopp looked to board-certified nutritional consultant and health coach, Marra St. Clair, for insight on the pills:
'Activated charcoal can help counteract ingested poisons and enhance digestion health. It is a highly absorbent material with millions of tiny pores that capture, bind, and remove up to 100 times the charcoal’s weight in toxins, including those that we ingest after drinking alcohol.'
People swear by these magical supplements, saying a few before bed and when you wake act as a cure-all for anything your hangover throws at you.
