Facebook News Feed to focus more on friends and family. Are news publishers doomed? | The Tylt
Facebook announced Wednesday that it's changing the News Feed. That's right ... another change! Facebook has decided to put more focus on user-generated content from friends and family.
But what about news publishers?!?! The media industry has become increasingly reliant on Facebook to generate traffic. A change in FB could spell disaster for them. News organizations have made an art (and job titles) around figuring out how to best produce content for Facebook.
Will Facebook's new algorithm hurt news publishers in the long-run?
Or, maybe news publishers will weather the change just fine. These are professionals and they've made it through a lot of obstacles already. One more tweak might not be that big of a deal. Chill out social media editors, all will be fine in this ever changing media landscape.
VP of Product Management at News Feed, Adam Mosseri wrote Wednesday in a statement:
"We are not in the business of picking which issues the world should read about ... Our integrity depends on being inclusive of all perspectives and view points, and using ranking to connect people with the stories and sources they find the most meaningful and engaging."
"We don’t favor specific kinds of sources — or ideas. Our aim is to deliver the types of stories we’ve gotten feedback that an individual person most wants to see. We do this not only because we believe it's the right thing but also because it's good for our business."
But what do you think: Will #FBNewsSurvive or is #FBNewsDoomed?
