Would you go out of your way to stay eco-friendly? | The Tylt
Whether it's remembering to bring a reusable cup with you to a coffee shop, forgoing a plastic straw, or toting your groceries in something other than plastic bags, everyone encounters daily opportunities to help the environment. Still, when it comes down to it, many people opt for convenience no matter how much they care about the future of the environment. How strict are you when it comes to making eco-friendly decisions?
Would you go out of your way to stay eco-friendly?
For some, living the zero-waste life is the only way to live. According to the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the world has to make unprecedented changes in the next decade in order to limit global temperature increases. If we don't, risks include famine, coastal flooding, extreme weather events and more.
In other words, now is not the time to choose convenience over action. Whatever you can do to cut down on your waste and shrink your carbon footprint is helpful, and it is important to stick to your convictions. As Green Diary describes it, living a life that respects the planet is our "duty."
But for many, convenience is still king. Avoiding plastics is already hard enough, and sometimes, despite the best intentions, plastic is the only option. Whether it's keeping meat in your diet or grabbing a plastic water bottle from the store, many people are unable to change their habits completely. For this camp, going out of their way to stay eco-friendly is often important, but not always possible.
