Does posing topless make you a bad feminist?

Ardent feminist and Harry Potter star Emma Watson is under fire for a risqué photo shoot she did for Vanity Fair. Critics say Watson posing semi-shirtless undermines the feminist cause by sexualizing her image, but her defenders say taking sexy photos doesn't make her any less feminist. Dr. Finn MacKay, a feminist researcher, called Watson's claim that feminism is about choice "nonsense."

But others pointed out Watson sang a different tune after Beyoncé released her visual album:

In a 2014 conversation with Tavi Gevinson for Wonderland Magazine, Watson critiqued Beyoncé's brand of feminism for the same conflict many have been up in arms about regarding Watson's Underboob-gate: the sexualization of a women's body paired with messages of feminism.“As I was watching [the videos] I felt very conflicted," Watson told Gevinson for the magazine, speaking on Bey's self-titled visual album. "I felt her message felt very conflicted in the sense that on the one hand she is putting herself in a category of a feminist, but then the camera, it felt very male, such a male voyeuristic experience of her."
