Do you want to retire early?

What images spring to mind when you hear the word “retirement”? Relaxing by the beach? Days filled with long walks in the park? Hanging out with the dog your parents never let you get? Whichever the case, all those daydreams can be bucketed under the word “freedom,” as in, a lack of restriction from bosses and a droll nine-to-five. Some people under the age of 40 are looking to retire early in order to live the life they want; others are seeking to do so at the traditional age. What do you want?

The modern workforce doesn’t require people to be in the office at all times, nor does it mean people have to work in the traditional temporal sense. Depending on your job, technology means you can work out of the office at your discretion, and there are plenty of odd jobs and freelance gigs that can get you saved up in no time. Why not pack it in early with cash saved? Why not just travel the world and do what you want to do instead of being tethered to The Man for the majority of your life?

People know what it means to “retire,” right? That means not working at all, which means you’re not really making a set income. So, if you’re retiring early, you’ll have to live off the cash you have essentially up until you die. Do you really feel confident enough in your finances to do that? Because if not, you’ll basically be working odd jobs up until your expiration date.

Just because you’re working doesn’t mean you’re not living life—you can still travel and do everything else during non-work hours. Besides, working until you're 65 isn’t exactly a bad thing. In fact, it means you’re more secure in your life enough to really enjoy it. You’re over all the bull and can do as you please. And you can do it all with a senior citizens discount. Hollaaaaa!
