Astrology, the study of the positions of celestial objects to make determinations about human affairs, has been derided since the Scientific Revolution as pseudoscience. Yet, a 2014 study showed that more than half of Americans are believers. J.P. Morgan was such a fan that he used astrologers to help time his investments. Newspaper horoscope sections remain immensely popular, and fans say it's "an ancient and valuable system" for interpreting the world. Is astrology for real? 🌌

It's not just hippies and crystal wavers who believe. Forbes published an entire piece on how many respected investors rely on astrology to help them analyze the economy:

J.P. Morgan thought there was more to the market than timing, and he used astrologers to help guide him in that timing in his businesses and investments. He's not alone....The people who do this kind of work call themselves astrological economists or financial astrologers.

But astrology has been ridiculed as fraudulent since the 1600s. Defenders of science are upset that so many Americans take it seriously.

You want me to believe that the motions of the planets and their placement in the sky at the moment of a person’s birth determines their personality? Please. No. It’s not reality. It’s entertainment....At worst, it displays a breakdown in critical scientific education.
