Best way to pass the time: watching TV or reading books?

Now that the day looks a little different, people are turning to new ways to pass the time (baking bread not least among them). From video games, to exercising and to baking, everyone is looking for their new favorite hobby. But two forms of entertainment have always stood the test of time: watching television and reading books. Some prefer to kick back and binge "Tiger King" and "Love is Blind," while others would rather dive into their favorite novel, finally finishing that 1200-page book that's been sitting on their shelf for years. Which would you rather spend your time doing?

Having a book in your hands is an irreplaceable feeling. Nothing can absorb your attention as much as a good story, and there's no better way to relax than by diving into another character's world, rather than existing in your own.

Rather than escapism, books are a gateway to empathy. Reading refreshes your mind and body.

But, honestly, where would we be right now without "Tiger King"? Whatever streaming platform you choose, TV is our common escape.

And if you just can't help but reach for the remote, you're not alone. There's a psychological reason why you just can't stop watching. Psychology Today reports:

As Kubey and Csikszentmihalyi have noted, "Within moments of sitting or lying down and pushing the 'power' button, viewers report feeling more relaxed." Turn the TV off, though, and that relaxation vanishes as quickly as it appeared. We know that's going to happen. That keeps us watching just one more episode, and then another after that.
