Would you rather use a Citi Bike or purchase your own?

There are few things better than grabbing a bike on a beautiful, crisp day and feeling the wind in your hair. Whether you're biking to work or taking a spin through the park, biking offers a special kind of freedom. For this reason, many bikers prefer to invest in their own bike and equipment; they want to be able to grab their wheels and go at a moment's notice. Others would rather use bike-share programs like Citi Bike, where they can go almost everywhere their heart desires with less of the cost. Which is best for biking?

Bike-share programs like Citi Bike enable the adventurer in everyone to roam free without the stress of making a huge purchase. For those who don't want the worry of choosing the right bike, grabbing all of the proper equipment, and—most importantly—finding places to lock up their bike when they're done using it, New York's Citi Bike program and the like are the perfect solution.

But if you're a fan of biking to work on a daily basis, buying your own bike is the way to go. Plus, once you own the bike, you don't have to worry about the limitations of bike docks.

You don't know true freedom until you have your own wheels. Nothing can replace the split decision of hopping on your bike to go explore in the city or outside of it—there's a special kind of meditation that comes with biking that bike-share programs can't replicate.
