Is back-to-school shopping the same for online learning?

Ah, back-to-school shopping—remember that? Traipsing through the aisles of Target with your mom, wondering why you were looking at notebooks and pencils when there was still so much summer to be had. Some people (nerds) enjoyed back-to-school shopping when they were in kids, taking a deep, relaxing whiff at the promise of new paper and stylish new locker items. Others—not so much. Today, though, with the COVID-19 pandemic, many will be going back to school online. Some believe back-to-school shopping will be business as usual; others think it'll change. How about you?

Just because you’re going back-to-school via an online portal instead of going to an actual, you know, school doesn’t mean you shouldn’t gear up with all the proper tools. Staring at a screen constantly gives adults with jobs fatigue—imagine kids trying to learn? Buying the usual pens and notepads can not only give your eyes a break, but help to recharge your brain.

Besides, what’s wrong with treating yourself to some nice-looking binders and planners, even if COVID-19 is keeping you from brick-and-mortar learning? So, go ahead; get yourself some scented stickers while you’re at it, too. And also treat yourself to a few extra minutes of shut-eye before your roll out of bed to log in.

Back-to-school shopping is for going back to an actual school, not your computer. You can’t go all-out on locker decorations if you have no locker to go back to. Not saying that you shouldn’t partake in back-to-school shopping at all, but it’s certainly not the same for online learning.

Besides, your computer provides you with everything you can possibly need in terms of notetaking and scheduling and such. Getting something like a planner would be an unnecessary purchase. Either way, summer's nearly over...so...womp womp.
