Babe.net published an anonymous account by a woman accusing comedian Aziz Ansari of sexual misconduct. Ansari acknowledged her account in a statement, saying that "by all indications" their interaction "was completely consensual." Critics say Ansari's behavior was appalling, and some argue it was outright assault. His defenders say the accusations are unfair, and the accuser is devaluing the #MeToo movement by rounding a bad sexual encounter up to rape. What do you think?

Here's the account that was published on January 13.

And here is the comedian's response.

At the Atlantic, Caitlin Flanagan says Aziz's accuser set out to destroy him, not because she was sexually assaulted, but because she felt sexually pressured.

The revolution—in many ways so good and so important—is starting to sweep up all sorts of people into its conflagration: the monstrous, the cruel, and the simply unlucky....last night they destroyed a man who didn’t deserve it.

But Flanagan's take was also derided as "nasty, reactionary [and] slut-shaming."

The account struck a chord with numerous women who have felt sexually coerced and used. They argue assault doesn't have to involve a weapon or a physical fight, and that repeatedly pressuring an uncomfortable, unhappy partner is shameful and wrong.

Others say what Aziz did may have been disgraceful, but they object strenuously to him being categorized with serial rapists and predators like Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey.

Some critics say anyone who demands to know why the woman didn't handle the situation differently, or argues she had agreed to sex by going to Aziz's apartment, is rape culture personified.

The debate online rages about the legal definition of sexual assault, and whether the actions described were actually criminal. Others say we're not in a court of law.

Aziz Ansari built his career on being one of the "good guys," and a relationship expert as well. If you call yourself a feminist and then treat women like garbage, your career will suffer.

But some say the #MeToo movement has gone too far, and that Aziz Ansari's accuser is equating a bad sexual experience with assault.
