Are you sad or happy about Gawker's demise? | The Tylt
Gawker.com has met its demise. Gawker lost a $140 million judgement over an exposé about Hulk Hogan's affair and sex tape. Hogan's lawsuit was funded by Peter Thiel, a billionaire whom Gawker also pissed off.
Univision Communications bought Gawker's assets and six other blogs for $135 million in a bankruptcy auction and announced Gawker will be shutting down the week of Aug. 21. While many journalists take the demise of Gawker as an insult on journalism, others—the public and journalists alike—are happy to see Gawker go.
Are you #SadToSeeGawkerGo? Or are you calling Gawker the Wicked Witch of journalism and cheering #DingDongGawkersDead?
Are you sad or happy about Gawker's demise?
I'm so sad and angry right now. Every news org should mourn gawker's loss and worry about being next.— Dan Kois (@dankois) August 18, 2016
