The TED conference (Technology, Entertainment, Design) has become a cultural phenomena because of its stylized and branded "talks." Just mentioning "TED Talks" brings an image to mind of a person on stage, waiving their hands, talking into a head-mounted mic with a slide deck in the background. The talks are from interesting and smart people offering new perspectives, ideas and insights. But the talks can sometimes feel trite, condescending and formulaic to many who watch.
