Sandwiches are the most easygoing food there is. They’re very inclusive, as you can throw anything onto bread and it still counts as a sandwich. It’s also super hard to mess up a sandwich (unless you’re doing it on purpose, which, why?), so they’ll never disappoint. One thing that has the sandwich-eating population divided, however, is how to divide a sandwich. Some live by sandwiches cut straight down the middle while others claim those diagonally separated are the best. What’s your method?

Sandwiches are straightforward things (entities? Pieces of gastronomy? Whatever.). As such, it’s best that they’re cut in a straightforward fashion. Dividing a sandwich straight down the middle ensures that you’re getting the full experience without any nasty, triangular corners getting in the way. It’s pure enjoyment in the form of delightful rectangles.

Think of how satisfying it is to go in for a bite of that sando you just made after slicing it in perfect twos; think of the way you fantasize eating the other half as you eat the first. There’s no comparison! If you’re going the middle route, though, just make sure there’s at least some symmetry involved.

We’re not scientists (and if we’re being honest, we can’t really calculate tip without our iPhone, so…), but a sandwich cut diagonally somehow seems bigger than one lazily sliced down the middle. It appears to grow in size, increasing both your delight and your rate of satisfaction.

Is this possible, though? And, if so, how? Is it the fact that triangles are just more fun than plain ol’ rectangles? Who knows—all we know is, a sandwich is a solid way to go no matter what. Just keep those crusts on, please.
