Critics says music festivals are all variations on the same theme. As the New York Times puts it:
Want to see LCD Soundsystem? You can catch them at Coachella, Bonnaroo, Panorama and Way Home. Major Lazer? Coachella, Sasquatch, Firefly and Panorama. ASAP Rocky? Coachella, Firefly and Panorama. Gary Clark Jr.? Coachella, New Orleans Jazzfest, Governor’s Ball and Way Home.
Music festivals are catering to the rich, and many people are saying it's changing festivals for the worst. Instead of bringing people together for music, festivals have become a playground for the elite where people try to one up each other on Instagram for internet points.
It's gross, but you gotta do what you gotta do for the 'gram.
Others are too busy having fun at music festivals to care about how corporate or homogenous a festival is. Does it really matter if a bunch of rich kids go to Coachella or Lollapalooza? Plenty of normal people are going to do a lot of drugs and have a great time too.
