These are dark days, and no one is really sure when the current situation will end or how widespread it already is. Inadequate government response coupled with people ignoring precautions makes for a serious crisis. While for many years those who chose to stock up on goods and stay off the grid were thought of as pretty much nuts, it seems now the tables have turned. Frightened, ill-informed customers are stripping the stores of every roll of toilet paper and can of beans they can get their sanitizer-covered hands on. Meanwhile, the preppers are like, yeah, told ya so.
While the current situation is serious and taking precautions is wise, there is an inevitable backlash to hoarding supplies. Namely, there will be price-gouging and shortages. In a time when coordinated mutual support is most important, some people are giving in to selfishness and causing supply imbalances that could, no joke, lead to someone else starving, if this goes on long enough. Living in your own little cocoon surrounded by a thousand boxes of macaroni and cheese with a hard-on for armageddon is still, and always will be, absurd.
