2019 may very well be called “The Year of the Alien.” First, the U.S. Navy comes out and straight-up says multiple UFO sightings have been formally recorded by the government; next, millions of people are readying themselves to storm Area 51. The peak in interest has to signify that least something's going on.

Believe it or not, although one of the first well-documented UFO sightings dates back to 1947, strange encounters of the third kind have been peppered throughout the ages. Some believers go as far as to state that aliens have more of a hand in history than we think. Isn’t it kind of sketchy the Pyramids of Giza’s construction is so well-aligned with the stars?

Mermaids and the stories surrounding them are incredibly old. Odysseus and crew were dealing with sirens as far back as Ancient Greece, with many other cultures knitting together myths of creatures of the half-human, half-fish variety. One could even argue that there have been more descriptions of mermaids than aliens based on how old the merfolk legend actually is.Yet, for some reason, people are more willing to believe in ETs than Ariels.

In fact, one could even argue there are way more mermaid sightings than aliens in total. Henry Hudson recorded a mermaid incident during his expedition whilst sailing around the New Land while John Smith spotted a mermaid that was “by no means unattractive.” People continue to see mermaids to this day, one of the more well-covered incidents occurring back in 2009.
