Removing the gun emoji is similar to blaming violence on rap music, heavy metal, video games or other forms of expression. The link is never really there and all that is achieved is curbing expression. The two emojis mean distinctly different things and now Apple is saying it won't allow people to communicate with the old and 'real' gun emoji.

In response to the #DisarmtheIphone campaign, Apple swapped out its realistic looking revolver with a green and orange tipped plastic toy. The new emoji looks absolutely harmless. Gun violence in the U.S. has become incredibly politicized and some would argue that making guns commonplace is part of the problem. This is one step in changing our gun culture.
